Oakdale Elementary fosters a positive learning community by teaching and encouraging students to show respect, work cooperatively, and be responsible. Each of these traits looks different in different parts of the building. For example, in the cafeteria cleaning up after yourself and others is being responsible. On the playground using equipment safely demonstrates responsibility.
We expect all Oakdale Elementary students to meet our expectations in these three core areas. However, some students consistently display outstanding behavior and are positive role models to other students. In addition, some students work very hard at improving their behavior to consistently show respect, work cooperatively, and be responsible. In an effort to recognize these students we have created the Oakdale Outstanding Citizen Awards.
Each classroom teacher has the opportunity to nominate one student per week for the award. Students who earn the award have their name read during announcements, receive a citizenship pencil, and a certificate. In addition, students have a group picture taken and it is posted in the front entry of the school.
Please take every opportunity to talk with your child about the importance of being a good citizen at school. Citizenship makes Oakdale Elementary a great place to learn and teaches students valuable skills for success!
